Mass so I assume they have them on the cape?) and when to start your taps. The equipment is minimal - drill bit, buckets, garden tubing (if you want to be lazy and have all the trees go to one bucket) and spouts to insert into your drilled tree (they were relatively easy to find at a local hardware store)

It may be to late in the season to start this year, but you should try making maple syrup – it’s pretty much the same thing but it smells better as it boils down to next to nothing.

The hardest part is figuring out which ones are the sugar maples (they have them in S.E. We put it in baggies, though, and gave it to our friends. We're considering the fancy-pants jars for the next batch.

I suspect that, if we put a pound of our salt in fancy-pants little jars with a label describing the mystique of the sea, we could get twenty bucks for it. What is the retail value of "just over a pound" of home-brew sea salt?

Don’t leave us in suspense. But second, no Cape Codder is going to look askance at you grabbing salt water in a big pot. They'll just think you're cooking lobsters. Very, very traditional. You're safe. Now you need to figure out how to increase production and market your very special product.

First of all, I’m in awe of your ability to do the math. The Atlantic here in Florida is kinder to foragers. But fix the error in the penultimate paragraph. Water does not dissolve.

Great piece!
